New Study Showing Earth is Headed for a 4 Degree Temperature Increase
As reported in the Globe and Mail (October 22, 2009), a recent study by UK scientists from the renowned Met Office Hadley Centre has revealed that the earth is most likely headed for a 4 degree temperature increase due to climate change and global warming. The Globe article includes an interactive map created by the UK group that allows users to zero in and link to more information about the study’s findings for their area or any area of interest. The article also presents an overview of what the study’s revelations mean for Canada. According to the article, the findings demonstrate that “an overall temperature increase of two degrees Celsius worldwide would be manageable, but is unlikely. Even if emissions peak in 2015 and fall rapidly thereafter (an optimistic scenario), the chance of staying under 2 degrees is still only 50-50.” Moreover, the study reports that “more than 40 per cent of worldwide carbon dioxide emissions are caused by everyday choices by individuals.”
